If you'll agree with me, the above picture is the procedure for performing experiment 15 as stated in the physics manual.
                            BELOW IS HOW TO DO THE PRACTICAL

Title: Refractive index of glass and unknown liquid.
NB: the liquid you'll be given is water but they will still want you to refer to it as unknown, so, know the refractive index of water before going for the practical.

Aim: to determine the refractive index of glass and the unknown liquid
Apparatus: travelling microscope, chalk dust, beaker, unknown liquid, paper, ink, pin and rectangular glass prism

Okay! I hope you're gergett me. Now permit to save my time and just fly straight to the practicals

NB: this is for those performing experiment 15 only!
See your practical manual
Arrange your T.microscope to be at your preferred position but I'll encourage you place it on 70.00 on the Vernier and that will be your h1
The reading after placing the paper with ink spot under the T.microscope is your h2

Now place the glass block on the paper with ink spot and read it as your h3

Therefore, h1= 70.00 (you can pick your preferred reading for it)

h2= 73.54

h3= 87.54

Real thickness : h3 - h1 = 17.54mm

Apparent thickness: h3-h2 = 14.00

aUg= real thickness/apparent thickness = 17.54/14.00 = 1.25mm

The above picture is the tabulation which you have to also write in your workbook

After the tabulation, then plot your graph. Remember all graph must have a title. For this one is " graph of apparent depth against real depth"

1.e plot h3-h2 (on the vertical) against h3-h1(on the horizontal)
NB: pls indicate reading to your graph pls (e.g 2cm= 5unit)

After plotting, calculate your slope

Get your U= 1/ your slope

Do some other calculation as indicated in the practical manual.
Write your conclusions and the you're done!

Don't forget to make your writings and graph neat.
Neatness attract marks.
